In the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the movies based on the book, we see some characters that think they deserve to become Willie Wonka’s heir. They think they should inherit the chocolate factory because of something special about them. Charlie doesn’t feel that way, though. He doesn’t have a lot of money or things. He’s not skilled at anything and hasn’t accomplished anything that he’s proud of. He knows he doesn’t deserve to inherit the chocolate factory, but he hopes Willie will give it to him. That’s exactly why Willie chooses him! He doesn't care about money or special skills or accomplishments. He wants to give the chocolate factory to someone who knows they don’t deserve it and understands what a special gift it is.

We live in a world that makes things like how much money we have, how skilled we are, what we’ve accomplished, and how popular we are seem important. But those things aren't what God cares about! He doesn't love us less or more based on what we do, and nothing we do or accomplish can make us deserve the gift of His love. What matters is what He sees in our hearts.

1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
